14-10-18

From our Secretariat in Toronto, Canada and on behalf of  our ), 27 countries global Diaspora membership, Anambra World-wide Association ASA-World congratulates His Excellency Governor Peter Obi, the former Executive Governor of Anambra State of Nigeria on his pick by His Excellency Mr Atiku Abubakar as running mate with with testimonials n his experience working with the Anambra State of Nigeria His Excellency Governor Obi former Executive Governor of Anambra State of Nigeria as its partner in service in making Anambra State (our home state ) a “Strategic Asset” in Nigeria

As a non-political, not for profit organization we work in concert with legitimately elected government to enhance the lives of the under privileged, the under serviced and marginalised. However, in this case, we will break with the tradition to well deserved testimonials or an account of  our experience and observation working with  His Excellency Governor Peter Obi  throughout his eight years of stewardship as the Executive Governor of Anambra State of Nigeria. We will that it is incumbent on us to write the narratives in reaction to the armchair experts out there on His Excellency Governor Peter Obi

His Excellency Governor Peter Obi should be remembered as the man who transformed Anambra from the “laughing stock of the nation to a true “light of the nation”, and a “Strategic Asset” in Nigeria, beautifully captured on his book;“Unlocking the Access to Potential –The face of Change”, his vision for Sustainable Development.

With the book, His Excellency affirmed his commitment then to the United Nation’s Millennium Development Vision signed by 192 member states that gave birth to the then “Anambra Integrated Development Strategy (ANIDS).

A reminder that under  His Excellency Governor Peter Obi   and his team, Anambra State transition from,“it shall be well with Anambra”, “home for all” to “The light of the nation”. And under his leadership, Anambra World-Wide(global Anambra indigines Association were able to periodically conduct audits of his Stewardship routinely called “Project Inspection”, generally, from completed and to on-going projects that we (ASA-World) conclude with objective and independent visual reports punished worldwide. We also witnessed a series of pioneering initiatives under his leadership.

For the interest of those unaware of “this man’s”(Peter Obi), Former Executive Governor of Anambra’s accomplishments here are some of the highlights:

  1. First Governor to be conscripted into all the Presidents committees even when he is in a Minority and opposition party
  2. The First Governor to hand schools back to the original owners and gave them over 6 billion Naira to help them restore education to its former glory
  3. The First Governor of a different political party from Federal government to Govern a state for 8 years and maintained cordial relationship with Federal government
  4. The first serving Governor to be brought into Presidential economic team and appointed as the “SPECIAL ADVISER” to the President from a different political party
  5. The first Governor to partner with Donor agencies  for the development of his state
  6. The first Governor from South East then, to be honored with a national award (in 2011)
  7. The First Governor to serve a second Term both in the old and New Anambra state

8.The First Governor to reclaim his mandates through courts  and the first Governor to get a “tenure interpretation” by Supreme court

9.The first Governor in the history of Anambra State to highlight the significance of the Diaspora by creating create the Diaspora Desk in Anambra State government

  1. The First Governor to pioneer a workshop of peer review mechanism in NIGERIA

11.First Governor to become and remained the Chairman of the South East Governor’s forum throughout his 2 tenures of 8 years, the position is rotational every years but he was judged by

  1. First Governor of minority party to become Vice Chairman of Nigerian Governor’s forum
  2. Few will disagree that Peter Obi was the first Governor who is not Tribalistic ,ethnical or sectional in Governance
  3. He is by all measure the first Governor to stand by the rules of the law and respect it even when it did not favor him
  4. The First Governor to receive Award as the best FISCAL MANAGER and the first Governor to accord Traditional Rulers their due respects and attention in NIGERIA in recognition of Nigeria’s complex political culture

ASA-World’s position is that given the roles His Excellency Governor Peter Obi  had played in a stable in Anambra State of Nigeria and as a previous Economic Advisor to the former federal government of Nigeria, it should not be a surprise for anyone that the aspiring president of Mr. Atiku would pick him as his Vice. His Excellency Governor Peter Obi’s understanding of human capital and how to harness know-hows as the bases for growth and development equal to none.

It is our(ASA-World’s) prayer that a team of Atiku and Obi will work towards diverse economic directions that create jobs for the youths and the unemployed of Nigeria

  • Will become more cognizant of the global economic inter-connection and the need for fiscal discipline and related food shortage and the need for food security in Nigeria
  • Work on climate change and the correlating effects on Nigeria’s landscapes and agricultural outputs as well as refocusing the Nigeria’s economy away from pattern of growth that is not sustainable
  • A reminder also to Mr. Atiku/Obi a team that security of life and property are paramount to growth and development in Nigeria not to overlook infrastructural growth also to growth and development of Nigeria
  • Culture of starting projects and not finishing the project, lack of maintenances of existing infrastructures, roadways and bridges are good examples of unsustainable growth that should be addressed
  • Fostering enabling environment for education , entertainment and vocational trades constructions as the next best avenues for growth and opportunities
  • For the 2019 Nigerian election, members of Anambra World-Wide  wish for the leadership of Nigeria that , respects the Nigeria constitution and the rule of law, Human right and Civil rights, federal character commission and;
  • that will implementing restructuring and devolution of powers and a team of leaders that are competent  with good knowledge of Economics

ASA-World believes that the pick of His Excellency, Governor Obi, is the right one. He is an epitome of quintessential transformational leadership.

traditional prime minister of Abagana in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State by the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Mbamalu Okeke.

AN American-based physician and former president of Anambra State Association in United States of America, ASA –USA, Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze has been crowned the traditional prime minister of Abagana in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State by the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Mbamalu Okeke.

Abagana has been without a traditional prime minister since the demise of the former one, Chief F.C Akpuaka, in 1988 and all efforts to find a replacement had hit the rocks. However, the choice of Anakwenze was accepted by the people as there was no serious opposition. Igwe Okeke described the position of the traditional prime minister as an exalted one that required a man with proven integrity and well-grounded in community matters and expressed happiness that Abagana had finally found the right person to occupy the position.

The monarch said: “Dr. Anakwenze possesses all the attributes of a traditional prime minister. With his antecedents, the sky shall be the starting point for Abagana.” He explained that there was no contest for the position, adding that he personally looked around Abagana and the antecedents of the great sons of the town and eventually found Anakwenze worthy to occupy the position. He reminded the new prime minister that he had a lot of work to do, reminding him that everybody was looking up to him to unite the community. “As you step into this position, you have to know that there are many challenges you are going to face”, Igwe Okeke told him.

2016 Medical Mission- a colossal success

ASAWorld‘s Diaspora Global “Think Home”  Partner in Service organisations 2016 Medical Mission cum Diaspora Engagement a “colossal success”.

asa-world-call-to-serveHappy and Blissful New Year from ASAWorld‘s Diaspora Global “Think Home”  Partner in Service organisations to our supporters, sponsors and well-wishers . ASAWorld‘s “Think home philosophy” pays dividends to those in need and the marginalised at the 2016 Medical Mission, let make pay even more to the under services, less privileged and the marginalised.

On behalf of the Anambra State Association Worldwide (ASAWorld), the secretariat is pleased to pronounce by consensus of opinion the 2016 “Free Medical Mission” to Anambra State of Nigeria, just completed a “colossal success“. The Mission was seen on all accounts to have met its goals that encompassed direct “Diaspora Engagement Summit”, collective actions plan for reaching sustainable growth and development in Anambra State of Nigeria. A true Diaspora “Think Home Philosophy” that is guaranteed to pay dividends to the marginalized and those in need someday.

The 2016 Free Medical Mission to Oroma-Etiti Anam on 9th December 2016 revealed our suspicions that there are needs to reach out to the under serviced areas of Anambra State. It also,  underscored the need for collective action in filling the service gaps in Anambra State.

The outpour of gratitude from those visited during this Mission can be captured from the” statement of appreciation’ from the sponsor of the town of Oroma-Etiti Anam, Christian Onuorah (Enyi Anam) who wrote, ” on behalf of Ndi Anam, I express my gratitude to Anambra State Association (ASA) World on their successful Free medical Mission to one of the seven villages in Anam – Oroma Etiti Anam. Ndi Anam, will never forget the excellent services of the Doctors, Opticians, Nurses, Pharmacists, volunteers and the Crowd Control Team”.

The Mission to the town of Abagana may have been low-keyed, because the town of Abagana has grown conversant with  ASAWorld free Medical Mission visiting Abagana annually, given that ASAWorld‘s Medical Director is from the town of Abagana. Nevertheless, the reaction was equally that of appreciation and pride from the recipients of the free Mission in Abagana thanks to their illustrious son of the soil, Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze, His wife Dr., Mrs. Vicky Anakwenze and family .
One most touching benevolence on this 2016 Medical Mission was the act of donating free walkers, wheelchairs and other medical devices to those most in need of those appliances we all take for granted at each town the Missions visited.
The one recurring expression from all the recipients of the walkers, wheelchairs was  that Jesus has come down from haven, through ASAWorld to answer their respective prayers” . A “telling”  reminder to our partner in service group of the reason we remain our brother’s keepers.

The town of Ora-eri saw the most drama during the Mission. In addition to the routine medical examinations and treatments, the Mission met with the excitement of having to deliver the first ASAWorld‘s Medical Mission baby, appropriately named Amaechi, after Amaechi Douglass Okeke Ezemba (Nze Nwanonaobi) the sponsor of the Ora-eri Mission. As if baby delivery wasn’t enough, the Mission saw its first near death experience when the medical personnel had to bring back to life and to consciousness a dying person.

Because we are aware that the government of Anambra State does not have limitless resources to provide for the needs of all Anambrarians, we appreciate the opportunity to work in concert with the government and the stakeholders of the day in Anambra State in meeting the needs of the citizenry. To that effect, we say, kudos to the Office of the Diaspora Commission under the leadership of Hon. Stella Onuorah, Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs for making available the transportation spacious enough to transport over 60 members of the medical mission to the medical mission locations and back to the hotel.  Kudos, also goes to Chief Cy Agupugo , Senior Special Assistant to His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano on Diaspora Affairs for his leadership and supports during the Mission.
We credit the leaderships and supports from the Office of the Diaspora Commission to His Excellency Governor Willie Obiano’s willingness to work with all stakeholders in meeting the needs of the Anambrarians. Let us just say that “Willie is working” this time , in concert the Diaspora Anambrarians in meeting the needs of the Anambra citizenry.

On behalf of our  27 Diaspora Anambra partners in service group from Canada, United States , United Kingdom, Spain, South Africa, Russia, China, Japan, Ireland, Iceland, Holland, Pakistan, India, Dubai, Greenland, Switzerland,  to Germany , ASAWorld reaffirms that our goals remain to engage from the Diaspora in researching and filling service gap, jointly pursuing projects of economic relevance, promoting health and wellness of those in need and the marginalized, writing our narratives as our brothers keepers as the same time we celebrate our rich heritage, culture and history through brotherhood, owing nothing but love to all men and women.

Congratulations to all our partner in service organization on a “Colossal successful” Mission.  Seasons Greeting and a blissful New Year to all. We look forward to a continued successful Medical Mission and Diaspora engagement with the Anambra State stakeholders in 2017.
Happy and Blissful New Year from ASAWorld‘s Diaspora Global “Think Home” Partner in Service organisations to our supporters, sponsors and well-wishers .

We challenge all Anambrarians , Supporters and well wisher to Join our partners in service group from home and abroad in seeking answers to sustainable development in our home state; “the light of the nation”.
